ARGENTINA - Home of the Tango & Gaucho

Argentina is one of the ten largest countries in the world and the second largest in South America. Framed by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the magnificent Andean Mountains to the west, this country borders on Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile.

Argentina is a sophisticated and welcoming country, eager to share its abundant natural and cultural attractions with you. Argentina is a land of contrasts, stretching from tropical forests in the north to giant glaciers in the south and from Atlantic beaches in the east to the beautiful Lake District in the west.

When to go
The climate ranges from hot and humid in the north to cold sub Antartic in the south. The South is best visited Nov-Feb, the northern region is best in the winter months. Buenos Aires has a similar climate and seasons to Auckland and Sydney.

What to see
Buenos Aires - known as the "Paris of the Americas", is a cosmopolitan city with a mix of colonial architecture and European influences. Visit the fashionable Recoleta with its exclusive shops and cafes. Attend a Tango show or Opera or Ballet at the Colon Theatre. On Sunday the antique market at San Telmo is unique. The largest waterfall in the world Ð Iguazu is not to be missed. Its southern gems include Puerto Madryn with its abundant wildlife, Bariloche in the beautiful lakes District, and the mighty glaciers of Perito Moreno. The northwest is an area of startling beauty with colonial and Inca influence in the Salta region.
